The Best Time to Clean Is Before Furniture Arrives
Arrange cleaning as early as possible before moving in, ideally before large furniture and appliances arrive. With the flat empty, cleaners can work from ceilings and walls down to the floors without furniture blocking corners.
After renovation, there are often wood shavings, cement dust, tape residue and paint marks left behind. Ordinary vacuuming and mopping cannot handle all of this, so allow time for an organised pre-move-in deep clean.
8 Areas You Must Clean Before Moving In
1. Inside and outside kitchen, wardrobe and shoe cabinets; 2. window frames, tracks and glass; 3. air-conditioner filters and vents; 4. lampshades, ceiling corners and cabinet tops.
5. The kitchen stove, range hood and sink; 6. the shower, bathtub, mirrors and drains; 7. door frames, handles, switches and socket covers; 8. skirting boards, floor gaps and underneath furniture throughout the home. Cleaning room by room prevents you from discovering missed areas after furniture is in place.
Should Pre-Move-In Cleaning Include Formaldehyde Removal?
Pre-move-in cleaning removes surface dirt, renovation stains and hidden hygiene spots. Formaldehyde treatment targets emissions from boards, paint and new furniture. They are different processes, so mopping cannot replace formaldehyde removal.
If the flat has new cabinets, wooden doors or lots of new furniture, complete post-renovation cleaning first, then arrange formaldehyde testing and treatment, followed by ventilation before moving in. Tell the team how far the renovation has progressed and when furniture will arrive so the work can be sequenced properly.
